Block Diagram of the Automatic Retarder Control (ARC) | |
The Automatic Retarder Control (ARC) modulates the retarding (braking) of the machine while the machine is travelling downgrade. The ARC allows more concentration on steering and shifting of the machine by the operator. The operator does not need to adjust the retarder control lever.
Note: The diagnostics of the ARC have been enhanced and an additional function exists. A service mode indicator has been added and the ARC now performs the engine overspeed function.
The terms "earlier" and "later" is used throughout this module. "Earlier" pertains to the ARC without the service mode indicator. "Later" pertains to the ARC that has the service mode indicator and the engine overspeed function.
