Procedure To Install The First Reduction Planetary Components

Note: The components in the bearing assemblies are matched components. Do not use parts from other bearing assemblies.

  1. Assemble bearing assembly (14) and the snap ring into gear (3). Assemble gear (3) into inner carrier (15).

  2. Use a press in order to install shaft (2). Make sure that all of the components are aligned and that all bearing components are seated. Gear (3) must be rotated during the pressing of the shaft.

  3. Measure the gap that exists between the end of shaft (2) and the carrier deck.

  4. The shim pack thickness is the gap that was measured in Step 3. The tolerance is + 0.00 − 0.05 mm (+ 0.000 − 0.002 inch).

  5. Install shim pack (18), plates (17) and bolts (1). Torque bolts (1) to 135 ± 15 N·m (100 ± 11 lb ft).

Procedure To Install The Second Reduction Planetary Components

Note: The components in the bearing assemblies are matched components. Do not use parts from other bearing assemblies.

  1. Assemble bearing assembly (12), snap rings (13) and the spacers into gear (5). Assemble gear (5) into outer carrier (21).

  2. Use a press in order to install shaft (7). Make sure that all of the components are aligned and that all bearing components are seated. Gear (5) must be rotated during the pressing of the shaft.

  3. Measure the gap that exists between the end of shaft (7) and the carrier deck.

  4. The shim pack thickness is the gap that was measured in Step 3. The tolerance is + 0.00 − 0.05 mm (+ 0.000 − 0.002 inch).

  5. Install shim pack (10), plates (11), and bolts (6). Torque bolts (6) to 255 ± 15 N·m (188 ± 11 lb ft).

Assembly Procedure

  1. Install the first reduction planetary components.

  2. Install sun gear (20). The splines of the sun gear should engage a length that is approximately half of the available length of the spline of inner carrier (15).

  3. Install the second reduction planetary components. Align the teeth of the sun gear and teeth of the planetary gears. Push outer carrier (21) into the wheel until the planetary gears contact the outer ring gear. Then, push outer carrier (21) against the wheel.

  4. Dimension (A) from the face of the sun gear to the machined face of outer carrier (21) should be 29 ± 2 mm (1.14 ± 0.08 inch). Install the cover.
