PROBLEM
The 4429792/">442-9792 Tailgate Chains (725C), part of the 397-2858 Tailgate Arrangement and 437-2069 Tailgate Chains (730C), part of the 380-3698 Tailgate Arrangement need to be inspected and either reworked or replaced, on certain 725C and 730C Articulated Trucks. These existing Tailgate Chains may foul the center axle tires, causing the chain to wear. Excessive wear of the chains may result in failure of a chain, which may result in unexpected movement of the Tailgate, which may, in conjunction with other factors or circumstances, result in a risk of personal injury or death. |

Submit one claim for all 397-2858 Gate Ar - Scissor and 380-3698 Gate Ar - Scissor in dealer parts stock that are inspected and/or reworked. One (1) hour of labor will be allowed to inspect and/or shorten the chain on the gate arrangements in dealer parts stock. No parts are required to remove a link. |

1. Park the machine on a hard, level surface and referring to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, apply the parking brake, stop the engine and turn the battery disconnect switch to the ?off? position. |

2. Clean and inspect the tailgate chains on both sides of the body. Count the number of chain links in each chain. The original chain Part Number and Number of links are shown in Table 1. Refer to image 1.1.2 |

3. If the chains show any signs of wear on the outside of the links facing the tire, measure the links. If the diameter of any of the links is less than ?12.2mm the chain should be replaced with new chains as identified in Table 1. Refer to Table 1. and to images 1.2.1, 1.2.2 and 1.2.3 4. If the chain links do not show signs of wear and/or have a diameter equal to or greater than ?12.2mm, remove the chains from the attachment links and remove one chain link from each chain at one end. Ensure that the number of chain links is correct for the machine model and that both sides are equal. Refer to Table 1. 5. Reattach the chains to the attachment links and tighten the bolts. Link Bolts should not be torque tightened. Tighten the bolt to achieve minimum clearance to allow the link to rotate freely. |
