NOTE:

This Program can only be administered after a failure occurs. The decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS52614" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. Use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

NOTE:

The information supplied in this service letter may not be valid after the termination date of this program. Do not perform the work outlined in this Service Letter after the termination date without first contacting your Caterpillar product analyst.

PROBLEM

The existing 6V-8234 Spring Pin can fail or come out of position on certain 797, 797B, 797F, and 797F XQ Off-Highway Trucks. If the existing spring pin fails, it can cause extensive resultant damage to the transmission, including catastrophic failure.

ACTION REQUIRED

After failure, replace the 6V-8234 Spring Pins (used in planetary gear trains 5 and 6 of the 797 Transmission), with new 447-1647 Spring Pins.

Refer to the Service Manual if/as required.

The transmission needs to be removed from the truck in order to install the new 447-1647 Spring Pins.

For 797 transmissions, refer to RENR2036, Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission Planetary - Disassemble" and "Transmission Planetary - Assemble", for additional information.

For 797B transmissions, refer to RENR2577, Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission Planetary - Disassemble" and "Transmission Planetary - Assemble", for additional information.

For 797F transmissions, refer to KENR8372, Disassembly and Assembly, "Transmission Planetary - Disassemble" and "Transmission Planetary - Assemble", for additional information.
