Reference: Special Instruction, SEHS7073, "Alignment Of Two Bearing Generators", 3500 Series Gensets.

A re-alignment warning tag has been released and will be in place on all shipped 3500 Series Gensets. The warning tag instructs the dealer to be sure to align the engine and generator at installation. There are three primary reasons that 3500 Series gensets must be checked for alignment:

1. Mishandling during shipment can cause alignment problems.

2. The alignment can change depending on the floor the genset is placed on. Often engine room floors are not of the same flatness as that of the factory floor. The 3500 Series gensets are aligned on a controlled surface upon assembly in the factory. This is done to ensure smooth operation in the test cell.

3. The installation of vibration isolators can affect alignment, and any adjustment of the isolators can also affect alignment.

Due to these three factors, it is recommended that the alignment be checked and re-aligned if necessary when a genset is placed in its' permanent position. Periodic alignments are also recommended at engine maintenance intervals. Engine and generator bearing wear is minimized when proper alignment is maintained. The alignment procedure is located in the above references.
