New Battery Cable Routing Improves Service Life{1402}

Usage:

12H (4XM, 8MN, 2LR, 2WR, 4ER, 2GS),
140H (2ZK, 5HM, 8JM, 8KM, 9TN, 9ZN, 3FR, 3AS),
143H (1AL),
160H (6WM, 9EJ, 2FM, 3GM, 3HR, 2HS),
163H (5AK) Motor Graders

Description of Change: Battery cable routing has been changed to prevent possible interference with the throttle cable. This should reduce the chances of a short circuit occurring.

Adaptable To: The new routing of the 8W-3630 Battery Cable on machines with standard batteries, or the 115-9457 Battery Cable on machines with the 7I-5013 Heavy Duty Battery Group, is effective with 12H (4XM1272, 8MN450, 2LR295, 2WR512, 4ER409, 2GS310), 140H (2ZK1947, 5HM870, 8JM261, 8KM369, 9TN178, 9ZN120, 3FR131, 3AS391), and 160H (6WM334, 9EJ452, 2FM350, 3GM36, 3HR21, 2HS338) Motor Graders. The new routing of the 108-3570 Battery Cable, used on AWD machines, is effective with 143H (1AL164), and 163H (5AK131) Motor Graders. Refer to the chart, procedures (and illustration) below to adapt the new cable routing to earlier machines.

12H, 140H, And 160H Motor Graders With Standard Batteries Using The 8W-3630 Battery Cable

1. Disconnect the 8W-3630 Battery Cable from the right hand battery.

2. Remove the 9M-8406 Clip from the inner boss on the fuel tank.

3. Route the cable behind the throttle cable. Refer to Illustration 1.

4. Replace the 9M-8406 Clip with a 4S-1936 Clip.

5. Connect the battery cable to the right hand battery.

12H, 140H, And 160H Motor Graders With The 7I-5013 Heavy Duty Battery Group Using The 115-9457 Battery Cable

1. Disconnect the 115-9457 Battery Cable from the right hand battery.

2. Remove the 9M-8406 Clip from the inner boss on the fuel tank.

3. Route the cable behind the throttle cable.

4. Install the 9M-8406 Clip on the outer boss on the fuel tank where the flood light wire harness is clipped. Refer to Illustration 2.

5. Connect the battery cable to the right hand battery.

143H, And 163H Motor Graders With Standard Batteries Using The 108-3570 Battery Cable

1. Disconnect the 108-3570 Battery Cable from the right hand battery.
