Procedure For Propel Pump Neutral Adjustment {4351}

Usage:

AP-650B (9DN),
BG-225C (5GN),
AP-1000B (7HN),
BG-260C (8GN),
AP-1050B (6ZN),
BG-245C (4XN),
AP-1055B (8BM),
BG-2455C (6TN) Asphalt Pavers

Description of Change: The Neutral Adjustment is the only adjustment that can be made on the electrical displacement control for these 90 series pumps. The Neutral Adjustment is performed by adjusting the neutral adjusting screw which is located on the end of the EDC Control.

Illustration 1:
Locate two displacement control cylinder gauge ports (M4 and M5) which are located on the top of the pump on AP-1050B/BG-245C, AP-1000B/BG-260C and on the bottom on AP-1055B/BG-2455C models.

Perform the following for Propel Pump Neutral Adjustment:

1. Install two (124-8909) 90° Elbows and two (7X-5315) Pressure Test Fittings into ports M4 and M5.

2. Install two (8T-0885) 0 to 580 psi Pressure Gauges on test fittings.

NOTE: Under normal working conditions, this pressure could be as high as charge pressure.

3. Disconnect EDC electrical connection on pump.

4. Start engine and run at high idle until HYD. oil temperature is at or above 100° F. Read pressure gauges.

NOTE: The pressure that will be read is close to case pressure. This pressure will be different on each pump.

If the pressure is below 140 psi, remove these gauges and replace them with an 8T-0854 Gauge which is a 0 to 145 psi gauge.

CAUTION: IF THE PUMP IS STROKED MANUALLY, DAMAGE WILL OCCUR TO THE PRESSURE GAUGES.

The pressures that will be read should be equal. If not, adjust EDC adjustment screw on the end of the controller until pressure is equal with the following steps:

A. Using a 13 mm wrench and a 4 mm allen wrench for the neutral adjusting screw, rotate clockwise until the pressure increases on one of the gauges. Note the angle of the wrench and the pressure reading of the gauge. Caution should be taken not to bring pressure to HIGH, otherwise gauges could be damaged.

B. Now rotate the adjusting screw counterclockwise until the pressure increases by the same amount that was read on the other gauge. Note the angle of the allen wrench and the pressure reading of the gauge.

C. Rotate the adjusting screw clockwise half the distance between the noted positions from above. The gauges should now read the same pressure. This indicates the control is in the "NEUTRAL" position.

5. Remove gauges and fittings and reinstall port plugs. Reconnect the EDC.

6. Follow steps 1 through 5 on the opposite pump.
