Usage:

CS-531 (3WM, 4KM),
CP-533 (3ZL, 5AL),
CS-533 (3BL, 4HL),
CP-563 (1YJ, 5AJ),
CS-563 (8XF, 7GG),
CS-573 (8PK),
CS-583 (8YJ, 1EL) Vibratory Compactors

A procedure to tighten the bolts and shim the axle has been established for the rear drive axle on the machines listed. The new procedure will make sure that the axle is aligned correctly with the machine frame.

Procedure

Illustration 1. Tighten bolts in the sequence shown.

1. Follow the tightening sequence in Illustration 1. Tighten the four 3/4 inch bolts to 275 N·m (200 lb ft) and the two 5/8 inch bolts to 240 N·m (175 lb ft) on one side of the axle.

2. Retighten the four 3/4inch bolts to 430 N·m (320 lb ft). Check the 5/8 inch bolts for the 240 N·m (175 lb ft) torque specification. Use the same sequence shown in Illustration 1.

Illustration 2. Measure gap (C) between axle and frame.

3. After tightening one side of the axle, check gap (C) between the axle and the frame on the opposite side.

4. If the gap is greater than 1.5 mm (.06 in), use one 1G-8271 Shim. If the gap is greater than 2.5 mm (.10 in) use one 1G-8271 Shim on each side of the frame.

5. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 on the side of the axle where the shims were added.

NOTE: If shims were placed on both sides of the axle repeat Steps 1 and 2 on both sides.
