NOTICE

If it is necessary to rebuild any of the clutch groups, take special notice in the areas on the clutch plates located adjacent to the spring washers (Belleville type). Some wear might be noticed on the clutch plates. This wear is the result of the rougher texture on the washers imprinting onto the adjacent smooth plates when the clutch is engaged. At the time of rebuild, these "textured" plates which could be reused should NOT be used next to a friction disc. Reuse next to a disc could result in the rapid wear of the disc and cause clutch failure. These plates if or when reused, should be placed at locations where the "textured" surface will not be in contact with a friction material surface.

NOTE: Lubricate all seals before assembly.

NOTE: Illustration applies to steps 18, 30, 44, 62 and 100 of the transmission assembly.

108. Install thrust disc (25) and retainer (26).

109. Install hub assembly (23) to gear (21). If removed install sleeve bearing (24).

110. Install retaining ring (22) with Tool (D).

111. Install gear (21).

112. Use Tool (D) to install retaining ring (19) and install thrust disc (20).

NOTE: Heat bearing (17) to 135° C (275° F) for approximately two hours and install on output shaft (18).

113. Install Tool (A), chain and a suitable lifting device to shaft assembly (16) (speed shaft).

114. Slowly and carefully, lower shaft assembly (16) straight down and into case assembly (14). The weight of shaft assembly (16) is 80 kg (176 lb).

115. Install input shaft (12).

116. Install Tool (A), chain and a suitable lifting device to shaft assembly (15) (reverse shaft).

117. Slowly and carefully lower shaft assembly (15) down into case assembly (14). The weight of shaft assembly (15) is 46 kg (101 lb).

NOTE: Hold shaft assembly (12) away from shaft assembly (15) for clearance.

118. Install Tool (A), chain and a suitable lifting device to shaft assembly (13) (forward shaft)

119. Slowly and carefully lower shaft assembly (13) straight down into case assembly (14). The weight of shaft assembly (13) is 41 kg (90 lb).

NOTE: Hold shaft assembly (12) away from shaft assembly (13) for clearance.

120. Install transmission cover.

121. Check O-ring seal (11) (not shown) on each end of the tube assembly for damage or wear and replace if necessary.

122. Install four bolts (9) and tube assembly (10). Tighten bolts (9) to a torque of 55 ± 10 N·m (41 ± 5 lb ft).

123. Install brake drum (8), install bolts (5) and retainer (6) (not shown). Check the O-ring seal (7) (not shown) behind retainer (6) for damage or wear and replace if necessary.

124. Install bolt (2), retainer (3) and yoke (4). Tighten bolt (2) to a torque of 120 ± 20 N·m (90 ± 15 lb ft).

125. Use shims as necessary to get 0.05 to 0.15 mm (.002 to .006 in) checking endplay on output shaft and input shaft with Tool (E).

126. Check the end play using Tool (E) to be sure the shafts are free (not bound up). The maximum end play is 2.00 mm (.079).

127. Use shims as necessary to get 0.05 to 0.15 mm (.002 to .006 in) checking endplay on input shaft using Tool (E).
