Unit Injectors

Usage:

Remove & Install Unit Injectors

Start By:

a. remove the rocker shaft assembly

1. Remove wire (2) from the groove in the cylinder base. Disconnect wire (2) at the connector.

2. Remove the bolt and clamp (3) from the cylinder head and unit injector (1).

3. Use a pry bar to raise unit injector (1) out of the cylinder head.

NOTICE

The cylinder inlet fuel line should be removed prior to removing the unit injectors. Fuel can leak into the cylinder as the unit injector is removed. If too much fuel leaks into a cylinder, a hydraulic lock will form when the piston moves up during engine start-up. The hydraulic force can be large enough to crack the cylinder head spacer plate. After removing the inlet fuel line, plug or cap all openings.

4. Remove unit injector (1).

NOTE: The following steps are for installing the unit injector.

5. Check the condition of the seals on unit injector (1). Put 5P960 Multipurpose Grease on the seals and the injector bore.

NOTICE

To prevent a carbon deposit between the injector and the injector bore, make sure the injector body and the injector bore are clean and free of foreign material.

6. Position unit injector (1) into the bore of the cylinder head. Push unit injector (1) into the injector bore of the cylinder.

7. Install the bolt and clamp (3). Use clamp (3) to seat the injector into the cylinder. Tighten the bolt for clamp (3) to a torque of 65 ± 7 N·m (48 ± 5 lb ft).

8. Connect wire (2). Position wire (2) wire into the groove in the cylinder base.

End By:

a. install the rocker shaft assembly
