Separation & Connection Of Engine, Torque Converter And Transmission

Start By:

a. remove engine, torque converter and transmission

1. Disconnect wiring harness (1) from the transmission and then move the wiring harness to one side and out of the way.

2. Drain the fluid from the transmission. Remove the fill tube (2).

3. Disconnect two hoses (3).

4. Remove access cover from the torque converter housing. Remove the bolts (4) that hold the flex plate to the flywheel. Insert a screwdriver between the flex plate and torque converter to hold the torque converter in place.

5. Install a jack stand (5) under the oil pan to support the engine when the transmission is removed.

6. Fasten a hoist to the transmission and torque converter as shown.

7. Remove bolts (6) and separate the transmission (7) and torque converter from the engine (8).

NOTE: The following steps are for the connection of the engine, torque converter and transmission.

8. Put transmission (7) and torque converter (1) in position on the engine (8) and install bolts (6). Remove the noise from the transmission and torque converter.

9. Remove jack stand (5) from the oil pan.

10. Withdraw the screwdrive from between the flex plate and torque converter.

11. Install the bolts that hold the flex plate to the flywheel.

12. Connect two hoses (3). Install fill tube (2).

13. Fill the transmission with fluid to the correct level. See the Operation And Maintenance Manual.

14. Connect wiring harness (1) to the transmission.
