PROBLEM
The Fan Drive needs to be reworked on certain C-9 Industrial Engines. Inadequate grease installed during fan hub assembly may lead to fan drive failures.AFFECTED PRODUCT

ACTION REQUIRED
- Inspect engines with less than 250 hours only. Refer to SENR9599 for Fan Drive R&I procedure. For those engines with more than 250 hours please fill out a SIMS ticket explaining no action was required.
- Bearings should be fully packed with 2S3230 Lubricant with additional 30 grams in cavity.
- If there is minimal or no grease check for damage.
- Replace damaged parts, otherwise hand pack thebearing cup and cone halves.
- Install new 6V9748 lip seal in the specified position. The lip should be facing toward the front of the engine, lightly lubricate lip and reassemble.
- Apply 4C4030 Sealant to the threads of the bolt.
- Tighten the bolt to the following torque: 115 +/- 5 Nm (85 +/- 3.7 lb ft).

Contact your local Caterpillar dealer immediately to schedule this service. The dealer will advise you of the time required to complete this service. Please refer the dealer to their Service Letter dated February 10, 2004 when scheduling this service.
