Usage:
NOTE: This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3176" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3176" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
NOTE: This Revised Service Letter replaces the December 20, 1998 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Action Required and the Service Claim Allowances.

The engine oil filter can become unseated and allow unfiltered oil to bypass the filter during a cold start. This can result in debris being fed into the main oil gallery. A new 1613995 Spring Group needs to be installed in the oil filter housing on certain G3500 Gas Engines.

Action Required
The following procedure should be performed by the customer during his next normal oil change.
1. With the engine stopped and the oil drained from the oil filter housing, remove the oil filter housing cover.
2. Disassemble the spring from the cover and discard the old spring and retainer.
3. Assemble the small end of the new spring to the groove in the new retainer.
4. Thread the stud on the stopper into the hole in the center of the new retainer so that the stopper is nested inside the spring.
5. Tighten the stopper until the rubber contacts the retainer then of a turn past that.
6. Assemble the large end of the new spring to the groove in the cover.
7. Reassemble the cover to the oil filter housing.
