All 1117217, 1301066, 1483043, 1483056 and 0R4687 Cylinder Heads in parts stock need to be inspected and may need to be reworked.
Action Required
Inspect all 1117217, 1301066, 1483043, 1483056 and 0R4687 Cylinder Heads in Parts Stock. The letter "B" will appear on the cylinder head after the serial number if the head has been previously inspected. Complete the following procedure on those cylinder heads which have not been previously inspected.
1. Position the cylinder head with an appropriate support.
2. Remove the exhaust valves and position the cylinder head with the combustion side facing up.
3. The exhaust valve face should be "blued" by applying a thin coating of Dychem bluing compound to the seating face area.
4. The valve with the "blued" face should then be placed into the valve guide and slapped against the valve seat insert. This operation will transfer the bluing compound to the valve seat insert.
5. The pattern on the valve face should extend across most of the valve seat insert face width.
6. The pattern on the valve face should be a minimum of 3 mm wide and positioned toward the center of the seating area on the valve face.
NOTE: A thin line of contact at either the outside diameter or inside diameter of the valve seating face is UNACCEPTABLE. The valve should be replaced with a new part (1114680) and the "bluing" process repeated.
7. After the valve seating face has passed the 'bluing' inspection, the cylinder head should be stamped with a "B" after the serial number. The head can then be reassembled and returned to stock.
