Engine Hood Bracket May Interfere With The Air Cleaner Hose On Certain TH62, TH63, TH82 And TH83 Telehandlers

NOTE: This Program must be administered as soon as possible. When reporting the repair, use "PI3815" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3815" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.

Problem

The 1213837 Gas Spring or 8I6173 Bracket interferes with the 1195880 (naturally aspirated engine) or 1195879 (turbocharged engine) Air Cleaner Inlet Hose on certain TH62, TH63, TH82 and TH83 Telehandlers. This interference may cause the hose to be worn through resulting in the contamination of the filtered air going into the engine.

Action Required

Inspect the machine for interference between the 1213837 Gas Spring and the 8I6173 Bracket and the engine air inlet hose. If there is interference, relocate the 8I6173 Bracket per the attached rework procedure.

NOTE: This is a 1-hour job to inspect and relocate the bracket.

NOTE: U.S. and Canadian Dealers Only - This Program does not qualify for a Type 2 SIMS Report.

Rework Procedure

1. Move the machine to a level position.

2. Raise the boom and install the boom locks per the Operation and Maintenance Manual.

3. Raise the engine enclosure group (engine hood) and support the hood in the upright position so that the 1213837 Gas Spring is fully extended.

4. Remove the lower nut and washer from the 1213837 Gas Spring. Swing the gas strut aside.

5. Remove the 8I6173 Bracket by removing (2) each of the 5C7261 Nut, 8T4224 Washer and the 8T7547 Bolt.

6. Mark and drill (2) 9mm holes to be 11mm higher than the two existing holes used to be locate the 8I6173 Bracket. See Illustration 1.

7. Install the 8I6173 Bracket using the hardware in Step 5 using the new holes.

NOTE: It may be necessary to temporarily remove fasteners used on 1212771 Hinge Assembly to install the top fasteners on the 8I6173 Bracket.

8. Secure the 1213837 Gas Spring to the bracket.

NOTE: In some installations the gas spring may be fastened at the top in the lower of two holes drilled in the 1213838 Bracket Assembly. It may be necessary to remount the top of the gas spring to the upper hole.

9. Remove the support used in Step 3.

10. Remove the boom locks used in Step 2 and carefully lower the boom ensuring that there is no contact with the engine hood.
