Larger Diameter Bolts Used In Lower Transmission Mountings {3000}

Usage:

D25C, D30C, D330C, D35C, D350C, D35HP, D400 Trucks

Description of Change: Larger diameter bolts are used in the lower transmission mountings on the above articulated dump trucks. The 3/4" bolts formerly used to secure the transmission mounting pin to the suspension frame mounting pin have been replaced by 7/8" bolts. This reduces the stress level in the bolts and makes them less likely to break. To accommodate the larger bolts, both the transmission mounting pin and the suspension frame mounting pin have been changed where necessary. See Illustration 1.

Adaptable To: The new arrangement is adaptable to the machines listed in Chart A.

The existing 5U2536 or 5U8009 Transmission Mounting Pins, used on the D35HP, D400, and earlier C-models, can be used again without modification. The existing 6U2157 Transmission Mounting Pins, used on later C-models, can be modified as shown in Illustration 3 and used again.

The existing 4U8770 or 6U6181 Suspension Frame Mounting Pins can be modified as shown in Illustration 4 and used again.

New bolts and washers are required in every situation. The hardware required depends on the part number of the transmission mounting pin. Use Chart B to identify hardware requirements.

5U2536 and 5U8009 Transmission Mounting Pins are still serviced and are suitable for use with either 3/4" or 7/8" bolts.

The 6U2157 Transmission Mounting Pin is serviced by the 7U2313 Pin, which is suitable for use with either 3/4" or 7/8" bolts.

The 4U8770 Suspension Frame Mounting Pin is serviced by the 6U6181 Pin, which is still available for use with 3/4" bolts only.

Setting Method For Later Transmission Mounting Pins

Refer to Illustration 1 when using this procedure.

1. Remove grease and any other foreign material from the threads on the bolt and in the suspension frame mounting pin hole.

2. Assemble the arrangement using 9S3263 Thread Lock on the bolt threads. Tighten the new 7/8" bolts to a torque of 690 to 910 N·m (510 to 670 lb ft).

3. Tighten locating rings (1) until they are just touching transmission mounting brackets (2).

4. Measure dimension (A) on both sides of the machine. Adjust the locating rings until this dimension is equal on both sides to within 2.0 mm (.08").

5. Stake the locating rings by driving the lip into the groove in the pins.
