--------------- END SUPPLEMENT ---------------
Reference: Service Magazine, February 5, 1973, Page 4. The article "Adding Oil After Final Drive Disassembly ..." is about the same subject as this article, but it is for 225 Excavators.
Any time the final drives for 235 Excavators or 235 Front Shovels and 227 Loggers are disassembled then assembled, oil must be added to the input shaft cavity in each final drive before the machine is put back into operation. This will prevent a possible failure of the input shaft bearings.
The input shaft cavities hold approximately 1 liter (1 quart) of oil. This is the same kind of oil used in the final drives. See the Lubrication And Maintenance Guide. Add the oil to the input shaft cavities through the hole for the 8K3584 Relief Valve. See the illustration.
After the input shaft cavities are filled, fill the remainder of the final drives with oil according to the instructions in the Lubrication And Maintenance Guide.
Make a note of this article in the Disassembly and assembly Manual for 235 Excavators and Front Shovels.
Location of 8K3584 Relief Valve.
