Reference: Special Instruction; REHS0290 Flushing and Pickling Process Of Engine Piping
The new Special Instruction REHS0290, "Flushing and Pickling Process Of Engine Piping", is now available through normal Caterpillar literature ordering channels. This new Special Instruction contains detailed information on flushing and pickling of the engine system piping. The flushing of new engine piping is done to remove contaminants that may be introduced during manufacturing, storage, and installation of the piping. Flushing of existing piping removes contaminants that are generated during normal operation. Another source of contamination is from debris that may be introduced during overhaul. Pickling is the process of removing mill scale by chemical reaction, electrolysis, or both. The Special Instruction also includes information on cleanliness requirements for engine piping that is external to the engine and piping that is for auxiliary power.
