Radiator - Install

Usage:

Installation Procedure


NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


------ WARNING! ------

At operating temperature, the engine coolant is hot and under pressure.

Steam can cause personal injury.

Check the coolant level only after the engine has been stopped and the fill cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

Remove the fill cap slowly to relieve pressure.

Cooling system conditioner contains alkali. Avoid contact with the skin and eyes to prevent personal injury.

--------WARNING!------

1. Before installing the radiator in the machine, make sure lower fan guard (23) is in position between the fan and the engine, as shown.

2. Attach a hoist and suitable lifting chains to the radiator assembly, as shown. Carefully Install the radiator assembly in the machine. The weight of the radiator assembly is 229 kg (644 lb).

3. Put four mounts (22) in position, as shown. Install four bolts (21) and the washers.

4. Put cap (20) in position and install two bolts (19) and the washers on both sides of the radiator assembly.

5. Put upper and lower fan guards in position on the radiator assembly. Install 12 bolts (18) and the washers that hold the upper and lower fan guards to the radiator assembly.

6. Connect hose assembly (17) to the bottom of the radiator assembly.

7. Connect hose assemblies (15) and (16) (if equipped) to the bottom of the radiator assembly.

8. Connect hose assemblies (13) and (14) (if equipped) to the bottom of the radiator assembly.

9. Install tube assembly (11) and tighten hose clamp (10). Install bolt (12), the nut and the washers.

10. Install hose (8) and tighten two hose clamps (9).

11. Install bolt (7), the nut and the washers.

12. Put hose assembly (4) in position on the radiator assembly, as shown. Tighten the hose clamp.

13. Connect hose assembly (4) to the radiator header tank. Tighten the hose clamp.

14. Install hose (5) and tighten four hose clamps (6).

15. Install hose (3) and tighten four hose clamps (2).

16. Connect hose assembly (1) to the radiator assembly.

17. Fill the cooling system with coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change" for the machine that is being serviced.

End By:

a. Install the air cleaner. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Air Cleaner - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

b. Install the hydraulic oil cooler. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic Oil Cooler - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

c. Remove the steering frame lock pin. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock Pin - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
