Usage:

Removal Procedure

Start By:

a. Install the steering frame lock pin. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock Pin - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

b. Remove the center drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, Power Train, "Drive Shaft (Center) - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

c. Release the pressure from the hydraulic system. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Hydraulic System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.

NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide", for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines.

Dispose of fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.

Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all of the attachments have been lowered, and the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool enough to touch with your bare hand.

--------WARNING!------

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from the sudden release of high pressure oil.

Be sure that the accumulator oil pressure is zero before any service is done on the ride control hydraulic system.

The accumulator is filled with dry nitrogen. Do not loosen or remove the valve or cap from the top of the accumulator.

--------WARNING!------

NOTE: Put identification marks on the hose assembly and plug the hose assembly. This will help to prevent fluid loss and this will help to prevent contaminants from entering the system.

NOTE: The ride control accumulator is located inside the loader front frame.

1. Remove bolt (1), the washer and retainer (2).

2. Attach a hoist and a suitable lifting sling to the ride control accumulator through the access hole in the front frame, as shown. Use the hoist to support the ride control accumulator.

3. Disconnect hose assembly (3) from the bottom of the ride control accumulator.

4. Remove two bolts (4) and the washers from the bottom of the ride control accumulator.

5. Using the hoist to support the ride control accumulator, carefully remove the ride control accumulator from the machine. The weight of the ride control accumulator is 52 kg (114 lb).

Installation Procedure

1. Attach one end of a suitable lifting sling to the ride control accumulator. Pass the other end of the sling through the access hole in the front frame and attach it to a hoist, as shown.

2. Use the hoist to lift the ride control accumulator into position in the front frame. The weight of the ride control accumulator is 52 kg (114 lb).

3. Install two bolts (4) and the washers to the bottom of the ride control accumulator.

4. Connect hose assembly (3) to the bottom of the ride control accumulator.

5. Install retainer (2), bolt (1) and the washer.

6. Fill the hydraulic tank with oil to the correct level. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual for the machine that is being serviced.

End By:

a. Install the center drive shaft. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, Power Train, "Drive Shaft (Center) - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.

b. Remove the steering frame lock pin. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Steering Frame Lock Pin - Remove and Install" for the machine that is being serviced.
