Description of Change: New cylinder block group and a new rear gear group are used on these engines. The only change between the new and former rear gear groups is an improved mounting flange on the new center and cam idler stub shafts. The new stub shafts required cylinder block casting changes that resulted in the new cylinder block groups. These changes along with a new tightening procedure for the stub shaft mounting bolts will help prevent fretting at the cylinder block/stub shaft joint.
The new cylinder block groups include two new piston cooling jet oil galley plugs and a new plug at the rear of the center main bearing oil galley.
Illustration 1.
The new cylinder block groups and the new rear gear groups are NOT interchangeable with earlier cylinder block groups and rear gear groups.
Adaptable To: The chart lists the new and earlier components of the engines.
The new components identified in the chart are in effect as shown in the subtitle. The new components are NOT interchangeable with the earlier components listed.
Use the procedure that follows to tighten the bolts that fasten the two new 149-0563 Idler Shafts (Y) and new 149-0561 Shaft Assembly (X) to the rear of the cylinder block.

Detail of the new 149-0561 Shaft Assembly (X) and the two new 149-0563 Idler Shafts (Y) in the new 149-0560 Rear Gear Group.
1. The tightening sequence for the 10 bolt flange on the new 149-0561 Shaft Assembly (X) is 1-6-3-8-5-10-7-2-9-4.
2. The tightening sequence for the 8 bolt flange on the 149-0563 Idler Shafts (Y) is 1-5-3-7-2-6-4-8.
3. Tighten each bolt, in the sequence given in Steps 1 or 2, to a torque of 160 ± 16 N·m (117 ± 12 lb ft).
4. Tighten each bolt, in the sequence given in Steps 1 or 2, an additional 45° ± 5°.
