Disassemble Parking Brake
Brake Lever Components
(1) Link assembly. (24) Shift cap. (25) Nuts. (26) Lock washers. (27) Bracket. (28) Flat washers. (29) Brake lever. (30) Bolt. (31) Lock washers. (32) Bolts. (33) Clevis pin. (34) Cotter pin.
1. Remove cotter pin (34) and clevis pin (33) securing yoke end of link assembly (1) to brake lever (29).
2. Remove two bolts (32) and lock washers (31) securing brake lever (29) and bracket (27) assembly to shift cap (24).
3. Remove nuts (25), lock washers (26), bolts (30), and flat washers (28) securing bracket (27) to brake lever (29). Separate these parts.
4. Remove cotter pin (6) and clevis pin (7) securing rod end of link assembly (1) to cam levers (10). Remove the link assembly.
5. Disassemble the link assembly, if desired, by loosening nuts (36). Thread yoke (35), and rod end (38) off link (37).
6. Remove cotter pin (9) and clevis pin (8) securing cam levers (10) to brace (3). Remove the cam levers.
7. Remove cotter pin (4) and clevis pin (5) securing brace (3) to link anchor (2). Remove the braces.
8. Remove two nuts (12), lock washer (13), and guide bolt (15) from bracket (23) and brake band (22).
9. Remove two nuts (16), lock washer (17), two springs (14) and adjustment bolt (11) from bracket (23) and brake band (22).
10. Remove anchor bolt (20) and spring (21) from band anchor (18) and brake band (22).
11. Slide brake band (22) off of brake drum (19).
12. Remove brake drum (19), if desired.
NOTE: To remove brake drum (19), do steps 3 through 6 of Disassemble Four-Speed Gearbox, located in this module.
13. Remove bolts, lock washers, and nuts (where used) securing band anchor (18), bracket (23), and link anchor (2) to four-speed gearbox (35), if necessary to remove these parts.
Assemble Parking Brake
1. Install band anchor (18), bracket (23), and link anchor (2) to four-speed gearbox (35) if these parts were removed during disassembly. Secure with bolts, lock washers, and nuts (where used).
2. Install brake drum (19) to four-speed gearbox (35), if removed.
NOTE: To install brake drum (19), do steps 17 through 20 of Assemble Four-Speed Gearbox, located in this module.
3. Slide brake band (22) over brake drum (19) and brake anchor (18).
4. Insert spring (21) between band anchor (18) and brake band (22). Install anchor bolt (20) but do not tighten completely.
5. Insert one spring (14) on each side of bracket (23). Install adjustment bolt (11) through ends of brake band (22), springs (14), and bracket (23). Install lock washer (17) and two nuts (16) onto the bolt, but do not tighten.
6. Insert guide bolt (15) through bottom of brake band (22) and bracket (23). Install lock washer (13) and two nuts (12) onto the bolt, but do not tighten.
7. Secure brace (3) to link anchor (2) with clevis pin (5) and cotter pin (4).
8. Position a cam lever (10) on each side of adjustment bolt (11). Install clevis pin (8) through brace (3), cam levers (10), and bolt (11). Secure the clevis pin with cotter pin (9).
9. Set the four-speed gearbox in neutral.
10. Rotate brake drum (19) while tightening anchor bolt (20). Stop tightening the bolt when a slight drag is felt on the brake drum. Secure the bolt at this position by wiring through the bolt head and brake band (22).
11. Continue rotating the brake drum while tightening guide bolt (15). Stop tightening when a slight increase in drag is felt on the brake drum. Tighten nuts (12) to lock the bolt at this position.
12. Continue rotating the brake drum while tightening inside nut (16) on adjustment bolt (11). Stop tightening when a slight increase in drag is felt on the brake drum. Tighten outside nut (16) to lock the bolt at this position.
13. Install bracket (27) to brake lever (29) with bolts (30), flat washers (28), lock washers (26), and nuts (25).
14. Install brake lever (29) and bracket (27) assembly to shift cap (24) with two bolts (32) and lock washers (31).
15. Install nuts (36), yoke (35), and rod end (38) to link (37), if these parts were removed during disassembly.
16. Install the yoke end of link assembly (1) to brake lever (29). Secure with clevis pin (33) and cotter pin (34).
17. Install the rod end of link assembly (1) between cam levers (10). Secure with clevis pin (7) and cotter pin (6).
