Usage:
NOTE: Some of the photos are of the CS-563 axle differential.
Start By:
a. remove right side axle housing only
1. Attach chain and a suitable lifting device to differential case (1). The weight of the differential case is 36 kg (80 lb).
2. Install Tool (A). Remove bearing assembly (2).
3. Turn differential 180°. Install Tool (A). Remove bearing assembly (3). When installing, heat bearings (2) and (3) to a temperature of 135°C (275°F). Install the bearings onto the differential assembly in their original location.
4. Put identification (location marks) on the differential case halves.
There is spring pressure when bolts (4) are removed. Use a press as shown to prevent possible injury. |
5. Place the differential assembly in a press. Use Tool (B) and then remove eight bolts (4). Release pressure slowly to separate the differential case halves. When installing bolts, tighten the eight bolts to a torque of 92 to 125 N·m (68 to 92 lb ft).
6. Remove differential case halve (5).
7. If necessary, remove bushing (6) from differential case halve (5).
Typical Example
8. Remove side gear (7). Remove thrust washer (8) from the side gear.
9. Remove spider assembly (9) from the differential case half.
Typical Example
10. Remove four washers (11) and four gears (10) from spider (9).
Typical Example
11. Remove side gear (12) and washer (13) from the differential case half.
12. Remove bushing (14) from the differential case halve.
NOTE: There are twelve large rivets (15) holding gear (16) to the differential case halve. These rivets would have to be drilled out to be removed. Remove only if wear or damage necessitate.
NOTE: For assembly of the differential, reverse the disassembly steps.
NOTE: Refer to Service Manual Module KENR1893 for the topic, "Assemble Axle Housing", for information on the differential preload adjustment.
