Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Transmission failure may occur if the 115-0764 Lock Ring comes out of position allowing the clutch 2 hub to move freely within the input planetary.

NOTICE

If the mentioned lock rings or retaining rings are not replaced with new at component rebuild, this can lead to poor retention and the ring coming loose, causing component damage.

Solution

Caterpillar is aware of this problem and is recommending the following interim corrective solution.

------ WARNING! ------

Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.

The lock ring is recommended to be removed and replaced at each transmission overhaul. Reuse of the lock ring may lead to poor component retention.

Do not compress or bend the ring any further than is required to install the ring in the ring gear. Excessive bending or compressing of the retaining/lock rings can alter the force of the ring and lead to the ring coming loose or damaging the transmission.
