Polarity Connections And Use Of Service Meter Films When Service Meter Kits Are Installed

Usage:

All Engines Using Electrical Service Meters

Reference: Engines News, February, 1987; Page 2, "New Service Meter Kits Used For Service Replacement".

The Reference Article announces service meter kits for replacing electric hour meters. These kits include a new hour meter with male blade terminals for connecting to the female terminals on either a bullet, spade, or Sure-Seal(R) type adapter harness. The positive (+) polarity and the negative (-) polarity is clearly indicated on the hour meter for each terminal.

Be sure to connect the (+) terminal to the red wire in the adapter harness, and the (-) terminal to the black wire. If these connections are reversed, the meter will not operate.

These new meters have a white gear wheel in the middle of the face. The wheel moves once every second if the meter is running.

Also, each meter kit includes two films (decals). The reason for supplying these films is to provide a convenient location to record the hours that show on the former service meter. Thus, for future service records, the total hours of service will be available simply by adding the hours written on the film to the hours indicated on the replacement meter.

Only one film is needed on each new hour meter. The 8T702 Film is for new meters with hour indicators in the middle of the meter face. See Illustration 1. This film replaces Form SEHS7785.

The other 8T701 Film is for new service meters with hour indication at the bottom of the meter face. See Illustration 2.

NOTE: It is important that all servicemen write the engine hours on the applicable decal and apply it to the new meter. This record may be vital for future service requirements and/or warranty considerations.
