Usage:

All D346, D348, D349 Engines

Reference: This article supersedes a similar article in Engine News, September, 1985, Page 5, "New Precombustion Chamber Seal Available".

Description of Change: The former article stated that a new precombustion chamber seal was available to give improved service life in high temperature applications. The new seal is made from a different material that resists high temperatures better. According to continued reports, the former seal still allows coolant leakage into the lubrication oil system in high temperature applications.

Caterpillar now recommends using the 2N5749 Seal for all applications of the above engines. A change has been made to the 8S4190 Seal to furnish 2N5749 Seal for parts service. The 8S4190 Seal is no longer be available.

Adaptable To: The new 2N5749 Seal directly replaces the former 8S4190 Seal in the above engines for all applications.
