Air Starting Motor - Remove and Install

Removal Procedure

------ WARNING! ------

Personal injury can result from removing hoses or fittings in a pressure system.

Failure to relieve pressure can cause personal injury.

Do not remove or disconnect hoses or fittings until all pressure in the air system has been relieved.


------ WARNING! ------

Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.


  1. If equipped with a sound suppression arrangement, refer to Special Instruction, "Installation of the 351-3820 Sound Suppression Ar (If Equipped)" for specific panel locations and the correct removal or installation procedure.

  2. Relieve the air system pressure. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "System Pressure Release".

  3. Disconnect hose assembly (1) and hose assemblies (2).

  4. Attach a suitable lifting device onto air starting motor (4). The weight of air starting motor (4) is approximately 29.5 kg (65 lb). Remove bolts (3) and air starting motor (4).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install air starting motor (4) in the reverse order of removal.
