Aftertreatment SCR System Dosing - Test

Test Procedure

  1. Remove the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) injector from the outlet of the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF).

    Note: Leave the coolant lines, DEF line, and the electrical connector connected to the DEF injector.

  2. Assemble the DEF collection container from the 441-0451 Kit - Test. Three bolts and wing nuts will connect the DEF injector to the lid for the collection container.

    Note: In the 441-0451 Kit - Test there are extensions for the DEF line and the electrical connection if needed.

  3. Turn the key switch to the ON position.

  4. Connect to Caterpillar® Electronic Technician (Cat ® ET).

  5. Click "Diagnostics" in the main menu, then click "Diagnostic Tests".

  6. Proceed by clicking "DEF Dosing System Accuracy Test".

  7. Click "Start" to proceed with the test.

    Note: With the DEF injector dosing, inspect the spray pattern. The injector spray pattern should be finely atomized and conical.

  8. After the test has completed, dispose of the collected DEF as per local regulations.

  9. Repeat the test procedure and document the quantity of DEF collected

    Specification for DEF collected during the dosing test ... 100 mL to 130 mL

    Note: Be sure to apply DEF, distilled, or deionized water on the o-rings for the DEF line connectors as lubricant.

  10. Reinstall the DEF injector assembly using a new seal and a new gasket assembly.

    Note: The seal and the gasket assembly are one time use only parts.

    1. Apply LOCTITE C-5A Copper Antiseize to the threads of bolts that secure the DEF injector.

    2. Tighten the bolts to a torque of 5.0 ± 0.5 N·m (44 ± 4 lb in).

    3. Retighten the bolts to a torque of 5.0 ± 0.5 N·m (44 ± 4 lb in). Turn an additional 90° ± 5°.
