ECM - Configure

Usage:

793F D3T

Machine Configuration

Cat® Electronic Technician (Cat ET) is used to access the configuration screen. Cat ET will guide the user through the procedure. See Troubleshooting, "Service Tools" for more information about the tools used in this procedure.

An electronic control module (ECM) must be configured when replaced. The configuration screen is only for machines with an ECM and configuration must be done before a calibration can be started.

Check the configuration screen to resolve a component problem. A component problem could be one of the following:

  • The component is not installed.

  • The component is installed but a change to the installation is needed to correct a problem.

To get to the configuration screen:

  1. Connect the communications adapter and the computer to the diagnostic service tool connector.

  2. Start Cat ET.

  3. Select "File".

  4. Go to "Select ECM".

  5. Choose the desired ECM.

  6. Go to the "Service" Menu.

  7. Select "Configuration".

  8. Click "OK".

Certain operations or characteristics can be changed for attachments or preferences.

Configure the VIMSTM Outputs

Use Cat ET to configure the VIMSTM outputs.

Procedure

  1. Connect a computer with Cat ET to the machine service connector via the communication adapter.

  2. Turn the disconnect key and the keyswitch ON.

  3. Start Cat ET.

  4. Establish communication with the machine.

Enabling the Road Analysis Control System (RAC)

Road Analysis Control (RAC) is a premium feature of VIMS. A factory password is required when installing RAC or changing a RAC parameter. Install RAC with VIMS ECMs and Cat ET connected. During the installation, Cat ET will prompt the user for the required password. The password is obtained from a self-serve web site that is linked to from the Cat ET screen, see the bottom of Illustration 6. A Caterpillar® Web Security (CWS) ID and internet access is required.

Enabling RAC for the first time will generate a charge invoice for the feature. See Systems Operation, RENR2636 for detailed information on Road Analysis Control.

When installing RAC, the screen shown in Illustration 6 will appear.
