The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Dealers are having significant labor increases to remove filter bowls/housings and filter service covers. The hex heads are rounding off. The hex is used to remove the filter bowls/housings and filter service covers when servicing the filter element. The symptoms and findings are consistent in all cases. The failures occur on machines between 19 and 25,000 hours.

Solution

Caterpillar is aware of this problem, but an Interim Repair has not been defined. Replace with same part. Use a six-sided socket when removing or installing parts.

Return any failed parts and provide pictures of the failed part. Pictures should include close up and wide view of failure, on and off the machine. Provide feedback to the CPI team 368870 using the "CPI Feedback" link in SIMSi within the "CPI Report" tab.
