Start By:
- Remove clean emissions module.
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool. |
Wear goggles, gloves, protective clothing, and a National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) approved P95 or N95 half-face respirator when handling a used Diesel Particulate Filter or Catalytic Converter Muffler. Failure to do so could result in personal injury. |
- Loosen clamp assembly (1).
- Disconnect clamp assemblies (2).
- Use Tooling (A) to remove catalyst (SCR) (3). The weight of catalyst (SCR) (3) is approximately
53 kg (117 lb) .Show/hide tableIllustration 2 g03386045 - Loosen band clamp (5) and remove bellows assembly (4).
- Discard band clamps (1) and (5).

Note: When installing a new catalyst or a cleaned catalyst, a SCR reset must be performed. Refer to Special Instruction, REHS8180, "Aftertreatment Filter Maintenance on Tier 4 Final Products Equipped with a Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC), and a Selective Catalyst Reduction (SCR) Filter" for the correct procedure.
- Install catalyst (SCR) (3) in the reverse order of removal.
- Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of clamp assemblies (2) along Distance (X). Distance (X) is
25 mm (1 inch) above the trunnion. Tighten clamp assemblies (2) to a torque of16.5 ± 1.5 N·m (146 ± 13 lb in) .Show/hide tableIllustration 4 g03386044 Cutaway view of band clamps (1) and (5) in position on the assembly. Note: Do not use power tools to torque band clamps (1) and (5).
- Verify the cup of Ball Joint (G) does not touch the radius of the Ball (F). Position band clamps (1) and (5), hand tighten band clamps (1) and (5). Band clamps (1) and (5) should be in the center of the joint.
- Dimension (C) and Dimension (D) should be equal within
2.0 mm (0.08 inch) . Repeat the measurements every 90° around band clamps (1) and (5). If necessary, adjust band clamps (1) and (5). - Torque band clamps (1) and (5) to a torque of
35 ± 2 N·m (26 ± 1 lb ft) .
