NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.



NOTICE

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Drain the engine oil and filter. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil and Filter - Change" for the proper draining and filling procedures.

  2. Drain the coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  3. Remove coupling assemblies (1).

  4. Remove bolts (2) and bolts (3).

  5. Remove bolts (4), bolts (5), and bolts (6).

  6. Attach a suitable lifting device to the engine lifting eyes. The weight of the 3512 Engine is approximately 6954 kg (15331 lb).

  7. Lift the engine from the engine oil pan.

  8. Remove bolts (7).

  10. Use Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to remove engine oil pan (9) and gasket (10). The weight of engine oil pan (9) is approximately 320 kg (705 lb).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install engine oil pan (9) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Apply Tooling (B) between gasket (10) and oil pan (9) to hold gasket (10) in place during assembly.

      Note: Do not apply Tooling (B) at puzzle joints or T-joints.

    2. Tighten bolts (6) and bolts (4) to a torque of 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 74 lb ft). Tighten the end bolts followed by the left and right side bolts. Start with a bolt toward the center of the right and left side of the engine oil pan (9) and work toward the ends. Retighten the three center bolts of the left and right side. Retighten all the end bolts.
