Eliminate Possibility Of Engine Oil Leaks From Oil Pan Bolt{1302}

Usage:

C-10 (2PN, 3CS, 8YS),
C-12 (1YN, 2KS, 9NS) Truck Engines

A potential oil leak path exists through the threads of an oil pan mounting bolt on these truck engines.

The oil leak path is through the threads of the engine oil pan mounting bolt located three bolts back from the front of the block on the right side of the oil pan. (See the illustration.)

Typical oil pan.

(1) Front face of block.
(2) Apply 4C-4030 or 9S-3263 Thread Lock to bolt threads.

Use the following procedure to eliminate this possible leak path only if an oil leak is present at the bolt in question:

1. Remove the sound suppression shield if equipped.

2. Remove the oil pan mounting bolt located three bolts back from the front of the block on the right side of the oil pan.

3. Clean and dry the bolt hole.

4. Clean and dry the oil pan bolt and apply 4C-4030 or 9S-3263 Thread Lock to the bolt's threads.

5. Install the oil pan bolt and tighten the bolt to 55 ±10 N·m (40 ±7 lb·ft).

6. Install the sound suppression shield if equipped.
