Start By:
- If equipped with a radiator, remove the fan. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Fan - Remove and Install" for the correct procedure.

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates. |
- Drain the coolant from the cooling system into a suitable container for storage or disposal. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

Illustration 1 g03654032 - Loosen hose clamps (1). Disconnect hose assembly (3) from the water pump inlet.
- Loosen hose clamps (4). Disconnect tube assembly (2) from the water pump inlet.

- Remove water pump (6) from front cover (9).
Note: If necessary, tap the water pump with a soft faced hammer in order to loosen the water pump.
- Remove gasket (7).

- Mark temporary mark on adapter elbow (11) for installation purposes.
- Loosen locking nut (10) and remove adapter elbow (11) from water pump (6).
- Remove O-ring seal (12) from adapter elbow (11).

- Ensure that the water pump is clean and free from wear and damage. If necessary, replace the water pump.

Illustration 4 g03654042 - If necessary, follow Step 2.a through Step 2.c in order to install adapter elbow (11).
- Install a new O-ring seal (12) to adapter elbow (11).
- Install adapter elbow (11) from water pump (6) ensure that the adapter elbow is aligned to the original position.
- Tighten locking nut (10) hand tight.

- Install Tooling (A) in Position (X).
- Use Tooling (A) in order to align new gasket (7) to housing (9). Install the gasket onto the housing.
- Align water pump (6) to Tooling (A). Install the water pump to housing (9).
Note: Ensure that the gear of the water pump and the gear of the fuel injection pump are in alignment.
- Install bolts (5) and bolts (8). Tighten the bolts finger tight.
- Remove Tooling (A) and install remaining bolts (8).

22 N·m (195 lb in) in the sequence that is shown in Illustration 7 . - Connect tube assembly (2) to the water pump inlet. Tighten the tube nut for the tube assembly hand tight.
- Tighten hose clamps (4) to a torque of
7 N·m (62 lb in) . - Tighten locking nut (10) to a torque of
90 N·m (66 lb ft) . - Tighten the tube nut for tube assembly (2) to a torque of
90 N·m (66 lb ft) . - Connect hose assembly (3) to the water pump inlet.
- Tighten hose clamps (1) to a torque of
7 N·m (62 lb in) . - Fill the cooling system with coolant. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change" for the correct procedure.
