Prelubrication Oil Pump - Remove and Install

Usage:

Removal Procedure


    NOTICE

    Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

    Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.



    NOTICE

    Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

    Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.

    Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.


  1. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Engine Oil - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  2. Disconnect tube assembly (1), if necessary.

  3. Disconnect harness assembly (6), if necessary.

  4. Disconnect tube assembly (2) from check valve (3).

  5. Remove tube (4) and the elbows, if necessary.

  6. Remove prelubrication oil pump (5) from the bracket on the engine oil pan.

  7. Remove the bolts and check valve (3) from prelubrication oil pump (5).

    ------ WARNING! ------

    Personal injury can result from parts and/or covers under spring pressure.

    Spring force will be released when covers are removed.

    Be prepared to hold spring loaded covers as the bolts are loosened.


  8. Remove the valve assembly from housing (12).

  9. Remove pin (11) from body (7). Remove the following components from body (7): pin (10), spring (9) and valve (8).
