变速箱液压控制安全阀用于调节变速箱内主要部件的压力。 变速箱液压控制安全阀还向变矩器提供机油。
机油从供油端口 (7) 进入安全阀。 油压作用在滑阀 (3) 上。 当作用在滑阀上的压力大于弹簧 (4) 的作用力时，滑阀 (3) 向右移动。 机油流至变矩器进口 (10) 的腔室。 当滑阀 (3) 向右移动时，机油通过单向阀 (2) 进入腔室 (1)。 在正常操作下，端口 (7) 中的机油渗出，经过腔室 (8) 的滑阀 (3) 到达变矩器。 当变矩器的油压升高时，安全阀 (9) 使机油流到油池。 这会控制变矩器中机油的进口压力。
如果到变速箱液压控制安全阀的供油停止，则腔室 (1) 中的机油被单向阀 (2) 截留。 机油会缓慢地流过缓动阀 (6) 到达油池，这会使滑阀返回到左侧。 这可防止滑阀 (3) 在变矩器停止旋转前返回到左侧。
调整螺钉 (5) 通过改变弹簧 (4) 上的预负载来调整安全压力。
