C9 Petroleum Engine Caterpillar

Refill Capacities

Usage:

TH31-C9P PFZ

Engine Oil

The refill capacities for the engine crankcase reflect the approximate capacity of the crankcase or sump plus standard oil filters. Auxiliary oil filter systems will require additional oil. Refer to the OEM specifications for the capacity of the auxiliary oil filter.

( 1 ) These values are approximate capacities for the crankcase oil sump which include the standard oil filters that are installed at the factory. Engines with auxiliary oil filters will require additional oil. Refer to the OEM specifications for the capacity of the auxiliary oil filter.

Transmission and Torque Converter Capacities

The fill volume will increase because of the output transfer gear. A larger drop in oil level can be expected. There are more lines that need to be filled on a transmission that has an output transfer gear. The transmission needs to be topped off to the full cold mark on the dipstick.

The refill capacities that are listed in Table 2 are for filling the transmission during routine maintenance. Initial system fills or refills after system repairs will require additional oil in order to fill the oil filter lines, the oil filters, and the torque converter. This additional amount of oil will vary between Original Equipment Manufacturers due to different lengths of hoses that are used for the oil filter lines. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Torque Converter and Transmission Oil Level - Change" for the proper procedure in order to fill the transmission.

Coolant System

To maintain the cooling system, the total cooling system capacity must be known. The capacity of the total cooling system will vary. The capacity will depend on the size of the radiator (capacity). Table 4should be completed by the customer for the maintenance of the cooling system.
