Clarify Usage Of Parts Service Cylinder Head Gaskets{1124}

Usage:

3200 Family Of Engines

Reference: Truck Engine News, May 1989, Page 2, "New Head Gasket Used".

Two cylinder head gaskets are used in production and parts service of the 3200 Family of Engines.

The 7C-1599 Cylinder Head Gasket is used in all new production 3208 engines. This gasket has a green bead around the sealing surfaces, and the fire ring inside diameter is 117.12 ± 0.37 mm (4.611 ± .015 in).
The 7W-2059 Cylinder Head Gasket is used in all new production 3204 engines as well as 3208 remanufactured engines. This gasket has an orange bead around the sealing surfaces, and the fire ring inside diameter is 119.50 ± 0.37 mm (4.705 ± .015 in).

PLEASE NOTE THE COLOR AND DIMENSIONAL DIFFERENCES IN THESE TWO GASKETS

For parts service, the 7W-2059 Cylinder Head Gasket may be used in all 3204 or 3208 engines. The 7C-1599 Cylinder Head Gasket may only be used in 3208 engines with standard cylinder bores that have never been repaired with a cylinder sleeve. As shown above, the 7C-1599 Cylinder Head Gasket has a smaller inside diameter. Use of this gasket in engines that have had cylinder sleeves installed may lead to gasket failure due to the fire ring overlapping the flange of the cylinder sleeve.

The following charts identify the gasket kits that include the 7C-1599 Cylinder Head Gasket or the 7W-2059 Cylinder Head Gasket.
