NOTICE

Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.

Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Keep all parts clean from contaminants.

Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.


  1. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Cooling System Coolant - Change" for the correct draining and filling procedures.

  2. Remove bolts (1), bolts (2), and exhaust elbow (3).

  3. Repeat Step 2 for the opposite side.

  4. Remove bolts (6) and bolts (5).

  5. Remove air inlet cover (4). The weight of air inlet cover (4) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).

  6. Remove adapter (7).

  7. Remove bolts (9).

  8. Remove air inlet cover (8). The weight of air inlet cover (8) is approximately 30 kg (66 lb).

  9. Repeat Step 7 through Step 8 for the remaining air inlet cover.

  10. Remove bolts (10) and bolt (11).

  11. Remove bolts (12) and cover (13).

  13. Remove bolts (15), cover (16), and bolt (17).

  14. Attach Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to aftercooler core (18). The weight of aftercooler core is approximately 135 kg (298 lb).

  15. Remove bolts (19) and remove aftercooler core (18).

  16. Repeat Step 14 through Step 15 for the remaining aftercooler core.

  1. Install aftercooler cores (18) in the reverse order of removal.

    1. Tighten bolts (19) to a torque of 47 ± 9 N·m (35 ± 7 lb ft). Tighten bolts (19) in the sequence shown in Illustration 9.
