Oil Holes In Crankshaft Main And Rod Journals

Formerly, a large chamfer was machined on the oil holes in the crankshaft main and rod journals. See the illustration. A new smaller chamfer has been used for several years. To make the new small chamfer, a hand tool is used to break (remove) the sharp edge of the oil hole. Then the oil hole is hand blended smooth. The result may be a non-uniform small chamfer (when compared to the former chamfer) around the oil hole.

NOTE: NO crankshafts should be reworked to provide the larger chamfer.
