Stronger Oil Pan Available For Severe Applications

Usage:

3406B Truck Engines

A new 9Y5589 Oil Pan is available for new 3406B Truck Engines used in trucks with the setback front axle. The new oil pan has the following improvements.

... Walls are thicker.
... Higher grade aluminum alloy is used.
... Heat treated for more strength.

In addition, a stiffener plate is used between the oil pan and block.

The new oil pan and the stiffener plate give more rigidity to the bottom surface of the block to which the oil pan is bolted. (The stiffener plate has been used for some time with other oil pans as a sound suppression device on some engines in US-built trucks.) This stronger oil pan and its plate are primarily for trucks expected to operate in severe conditions both off and on the highway.

Depending on the sump location and available space, the new oil pan and plate can be installed on earlier 3406B Truck Engines, including 7FB1-Up. The new parts needed are in a 9Y5590 Oil Pan Group, which is serviced by the parts in the following list. When installing the new pan and stiffener plate on engines without the plate, be sure the correct oil lines group is used and recalibrate the dipstick to reflect the change in the pan mounting location.
