Caterpillar introduces a new telephone "hotline" for medical information on hazardous materials. Whenever there is a need for information on any Caterpillar part number for which there is a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), call 1-800-458-5924. This telephone number will connect you with the Rocky Mountain Poison Center (RMCP). RMCP is a nationally recognized chemical information center that is staffed by trauma specialists 24 hours per day all year long. They are equipped to answer questions on first aid concerning any of the chemical products that are supplied by Caterpillar (that have a Cat part number). This Hotline number will soon be found on some hazardous material product labels (located under First Aid).

NOTE: The information available on the hotline is to help health professionals treat persons exposed to hazardous materials that sold are by Caterpillar.

Along with the new Hotline number, the Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) required by OSHA will continue to be available at Caterpillar dealers. (See reference article.) The MSDS supplies information on the chemical composition of the material, physical characteristics, fire and explosion hazards, reactivity hazards, health hazards, recommended protective measures, and precautions for harmless handling and use of individual chemical products. Microfiche is used to keep the MSDS current. When a change occurs in a product, the microfiche is updated and sent immediately to the Caterpillar dealers. (Caterpillar dealers can order this microfiche from the Literature Distribution System. Order Form Number SEFV1602).

The information hotline and MSDS/microfiche assure that all users of Caterpillar chemical products have access to current information and provide a service that other suppliers of hazardous material may not supply.
