Usage:
Individual twist drills are now available from the Parts Department. Also available are six drill sets packaged in metal index containers, which are described within their related category. For setting up attractive counter displays, a 1U5808 Display Case is available for displaying any one category of drill bits. The charts show the drill size and the individual part numbers for each drill.
The drills are made up of different types of steel described below:
-
- - Molybdenum high speed steel
- - 2 3/4% Molybdenum
- - 4% Chromium
- - 2% Vanadium
- - 1 3/4% Tungsten
- - Molybdenum high speed steel
Drill bits made of this material are most commonly used for all standard drilling applications and has a good abrasion resistance.
-
- - Molybdenum high speed steel
- - 9 1/2% Molybdenum
- - 3 3/4% Chromium
- - 1 1/4% Vanadium
- - 1 1/2% Tungsten
- - 8% Cobalt
- - Molybdenum high speed steel
This steel has excellent abrasion resistance and retains it's cutting edge at a much higher temperature than M-7 and M-2.
-
- - Molybdenum high speed steel
- - 5% Molybdenum
- - 4% Chromium
- - 2% Vanadium
- - 6% Tungsten
- - Molybdenum high speed steel
This steel has good abrasion resistance similar to M-7 material but contains less Molybdenum and a higher percentage of Tungsten. It can be used for all standard drilling applications. This is a lower cost alternate to M-7 material.
In column two of Chart A, the first list of drills are standard 118 ° point, jobber length twist drills using M-7 high speed steel for all standard drilling applications. Drill sizes range from 1/64 inch through 1/2 inch in increments of 1/64 inch. In this category, the 1U5889 Drill Set consists of 13 bits ranging from 1/16 inch to 1/4 inch in 1/64 inch increments. Also available is 1U5714 Drill Set with 29 bits ranging from 1/16 inch to 1/2 inch drill sizes.
In column three of Chart A the drills are 135° split point, heavy-duty jobber length twist drills using M-7 high speed steel for drilling in alloy such as bolts. These drills require less drilling effort and provide self-centering ability. Drill sizes are from 3/64 inch through 1/2 inch in increments of 1/64 inch. The 1U5892 Set is a 13 piece set with drill sizes from 1/16 inch to 1/4 inch in 1/64 inch increments. The 1U5893 Set contains 29 drills ranging from 1/16 inch to 1/2 inch in size.
In column four of Chart A, the drills are 135° split point, jobber length twist drills using M-42, 8% cobalt steel for drilling in extra tough materials like stainless steel. Drill sizes range from 1/16 inch through 1/2 inch in increments of 1/64 inch. The 1U5890 Drill Set contains 13 pieces ranging from 1/16 inch to 1/4 inch sizes in 1/64 inch increments. The 1U5891 Drill Set contains 29 pieces with drill sizes from 1/16 inch to 1/2 inch.
In column five of Chart A, the drills are standard 118° point, jobber length twist drills using M-2 steel which is specified for most standard applications. Drill sizes are from 1/32 inch through 1/2 inch in increments of 1/64 inch.
Chart B lists reduced shank, 118° point, large diameter drills using M-7 high speed steel for general purpose drilling in mild steel and cast iron. Drill sizes are from 17/32 inch through 1 1/2 inch in increments of 1/32 inch.
