Proper grounding is necessary for optimum performance, reliability, and safety. Improper grounding will result in uncontrolled electrical circuit paths and in unreliable electrical circuit paths.
Uncontrolled electrical circuit paths can cause electrical activity that may be unsafe and degrade the electronics and communications.
Ensure that all grounds are secure and free of corrosion.
The UPS complies with the limits for a “Class A digital device” in accordance with Part 15 of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules. The limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. The equipment generates radio frequency energy. The radio frequency energy can radiate from the unit. If the equipment is not installed or used in accordance with this manual, interference that is harmful to radio communications may occur. Operation of this equipment in a residential area may cause harmful interference. The user will be required to correct the problem if interference occurs.
This equipment complies with Part 68 of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules. The outside surface of this equipment has a label that contains the FCC registration number and the Ringer Equivalency Number (REN). This information must be provided to the telephone company.

An FCC-compliant telephone cord and modular plug is provided with this equipment. The UPS can be connected to the telephone network or premises wiring. The connection to the telephone network or premises wiring is accomplished by using a compatible modular jack. The modular jack must be compliant with Part 68 of the rules from the FCC. See Operation Section, "Installation" for details.
If this equipment causes harm to the telephone network, the telephone company will notify you in advance that temporary discontinuance of service may be required. If advance notice is not practical, the telephone company will notify the customer as soon as possible. Also, you will be advised of your right to file a complaint with the FCC, if necessary.
Changes in facilities, equipment, operations, or procedures by the telephone company could affect the operation of the UPS equipment. If problems occur, the telephone company will provide advance notice necessary for needed modifications to maintain uninterrupted service.
If trouble is experienced with the model 3 Com U.S. Robotics Courier V Everything 56K External modem, contact the technical communicator at the Caterpillar dealership. If the UPS is causing network problems, the telephone company may request a service disconnect from the network until the problem is resolved.
No repairs are to be made by the customer. Repairs are to be made only by a Caterpillar dealer. Unauthorized repairs void the registration and the warranty.
The equipment cannot be used on public coin service that are provided by the telephone company. Connection to a "Party Line Service" is subject to state tariffs.

The 3 Com U.S. Robotics Courier V Everything 56K External modem is not serviceable by the user . Only service personnel that are authorized by Caterpillar may repair the unit. Only service personnel that are authorized by Caterpillar may replace the unit.

The "Industry Canada" label identifies certified equipment. The certification means that the equipment meets telecommunications network protective, operational, and safety requirements as prescribed in the appropriate Terminal Equipment Technical Requirements documents. The Department does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the satisfaction of the user. |
Before installing the UPS, a user must have permission to connect the UPS to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must also be installed using an acceptable method of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations.
Repairs to certified equipment should be coordinated by a representative designated by the supplier. Any repairs or alterations made by the user to the UPS, may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment.
Any equipment malfunctions may give the telecommunications company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment.
Users should ensure that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines, and internal metallic water pipe system, are connected together. The grounding precaution may be important in rural areas.
Note: Users should not attempt to make such connections. Contact the appropriate electric inspection official, or electrician.
