Cracking of the Aftercooler Radiator Cores on PM3516 XQ2000 Power Modules{1353} Caterpillar

Cracking of the Aftercooler Radiator Cores on PM3516 XQ2000 Power Modules{1353}

Usage:

3516C KEN
Power Module:
PM3516 (S/N: NAM1-UP; KEN1-UP)

Introduction

The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.

Problem

Some aftercooler radiator cores and/or inlet tubes have cracked.

The aftercooler radiator cores are susceptible to thermal stress from rapid temperature changes during load ramping. The amount of damage that can occur correlates with the rate of thermal increase.

Solution

When you operate the power module in an application that does not require quick changes in the load, apply the load gradually.

Do not exceed a ramp rate of 4 kW/s.
