G3516 Power Module Caterpillar

Product Description

Usage:

PMG3516 KAD
The power module is a complete, self-contained unit that can be towed to any location for the generation of electrical power. The power module can be utilized for prime power generation.

The power module is equipped with the following components: engine, generator, control systems, radiator and exhaust systems.

Engine

G3516B Generator Set Engines are electronically controlled natural gas engines. The engines are equipped with both jacket water aftercooling and separate circuit aftercooling.

Engine efficiency and engine performance depend on adherence to proper operation and maintenance recommendations. Use the recommended fuels, lubrication oils, and coolant. Pay special attention to the air cleaner, to the fuel system, to the lubrication system, and to the cooling system maintenance. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Maintenance Interval Schedule" for more information on maintenance items.

Generator

The SR4B brushless generator can be used with the following loads: mixed loads of motors and lights, SCR-controlled equipment, computer centers, installations of communications and petroleum drilling applications.

SR4B generators are utilized in three-phase full-wave excitation and regulation. The frame size determines whether the generators are four pole or six pole designs with six lead configurations or 12 lead configurations. The generator produces electrical power in 60 Hz applications.

Power Module Enclosure

Basic Container

The enclosure for the power module is a shipping container that is mounted to an undercarriage chassis. The container meets the following standards and regulations:

  • ISO/TC 104 Requirements for cargo containers

  • ANSI/ MH5.1 Basic requirements for cargo containers

  • ANSI/MH5.1.1 Requirements for closed van containers

  • UIC Code 592-1 International union of railway

The container is also certified and complies with International Convention for Safe Containers (CSC) nine-stack high.

Access Door for the Load Cable

------ WARNING! ------

Crushing hazard! Read and understand the instructions and warnings in the Operation and Maintenance manual. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could cause serious injury or death.

----------------------

The access door for the load cables may provide a crush hazard if the door is not secured in a proper fashion. To secure the door, open the door and push up on the center of the linkage.

Fire extinguisher

Fire extinguishers are standard equipment.

Louvers

Illustration 6g00773474

Louver

Louvers are installed in the power module in order to receive fresh air. The louvers are sized in order to meet the inlet air supply that is required for the power module. The louvers allow fresh air to enter the power module that is needed for the engine air inlet and for radiator cooling during full load.

There are louvers that can be opened and closed manually. There are also louvers that can be opened or closed automatically. The louvers that are operated manually require the operator to open the louvers before and after the operation of the power module. Automatic louvers are opened and closed by 24 V electric actuators. The electric actuators will open the louvers when the engine is started. The electric actuators will close the louvers when the engine is stopped.

Battery disconnect switch

The batteries for the power module are mounted in racks on the floor. The batteries are located at the rear of the generator set. The batteries provide power for the engine and for 24 V interior lighting. The batteries are connected to a battery charger and to the alternator for charging. A battery disconnect switch is mounted on top of the battery rack. The battery disconnect switch is used to prevent the engine from being started while the power module is not being used. The battery disconnect switch is used to prevent any battery drain while the power module is not being used.

Auxiliary AC Power Distribution

Circuit breakers are available for 120/240 V auxiliary power distribution.

Interior Lighting

Switches for interior lights

Standard lighting is incandescent vapor tight lights.

There are 24 V interior lights that are mounted in the engine area and in the operator control area inside the power module. The lights are wired to a timer switch that can be set from 0 to 60 minutes. The timer switch is mounted to the wall beside the entrance. These lights are powered from the batteries.

Outlets

Electrical outlet receptacles that are mounted to the wall are available as an option.

Switchgear

Illustration 12g00913989

Low voltage switchgear

A floor-standing switchgear and controls are provided with the power module. The switchgear and controls are for the proper controls and protection of the generator set. The following components are included within the switchgear.

Electronic Modular Control Panel (EMCP 3)

The EMCP 3 monitoring system components for the engine and for the generator are contained in the switchgear.

Paralleling

The controls for either manual or automatic paralleling are contained within the switchgear. For further information, refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU7607, "Power Module Switchgear".

Circuit Breaker

The circuit breaker is electrically operated. The circuit breaker is equipped with a trip unit that is solid state for overload and fault protection. The circuit breaker includes a DC shunt trip coil that is activated by any monitored fault from the generator set. The circuit breaker is sized for the full load capacity of the generator set.

Generator Paralleling Controller (GPC)

The GPC is a basic paralleling controller. Attributes of the GPC include: auto synchronizing with phase and voltage matching, load sharing (kW and VAR), base load to utility, power factor control, reverse compatibility, built-in generator and bus AC metering and sync scope.

Utility Multifunction Relay (UMR)

UMR is a protection module for the utility. The UMR provides: underfrequency, overfrequency, undervoltage, overvoltage, negative sequence overvoltage and neutral ground overcurrent.

Advisor Panel

This module displays engine data.

Bus Bars

Bus bar assembly

The bus bars are three-phase, fully rated, neutral bus bars. The bus bars have the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) hole pattern. The bus bars are for the connection of the load cables. The bus bars are also for the connection of the cables of the generator. The bus bars are sized for full load capacity of the generator set. The ground bus is for a ground connection from the switchgear to the generator. The ground bus is the ground connection from the switchgear to the container. The ground bus is also a connection for the power module to earth ground. The bus bars are accessible from outside of the power module at the access door for the load cables.
