New "L-Shaped" Clutch Plates Now Used{3302}

Usage:

MG514 Marine Transmission;
5N4426 (Ratio 4.5:1) and 5N4427 (Ratio 6:1) Marine Gear Groups

Description of Change: New "L-shaped" clutch plates are used in the MG514 Marine Transmissions 5N4426 (ratio 4.5:1) and 5N4427 (ratio 6:1) Marine Gear Groups. The new clutch plate has a wider spline tooth than the former plate to give more contract area with the spline teeth on the shaft. The narrower teeth on the former clutch plate can cause notches to wear into the spline teeth on the shaft.

Adaptable As: Direct replacement.

Clutch plates must be assembled in the clutch as shown.

INSTALLATION: The new clutch plates must be assembled in the clutch as shown in the illustration. Note that the area where material has been added must be toward the engine.

NOTICE

Do not use the new clutch plates on a shaft with badly notched spline teeth. A shaft with notches will cause notches on the new clutch plates and the clutch will not release.
