NOTICE

The correct procedures and tooling specifications must always be used. Failure to follow any of the procedures may result in damage, malfunction or possible engine failure.

  1. Loosen the nuts of V-band clamp (5) and V-band clamp (8) enough to allow the housings to rotate.

Note: Excessive loosening of the housings will cause contact. Possible damage to the wheel may occur.

Note: Before assembly, apply 4C-5599 Anti-Seize Compound to the threads of the exhaust manifold studs.

  2. Mount the gasket (4) over the studs in the exhaust manifold.

  3. Mount the turbocharger onto the exhaust manifold.

  4. Tighten the four nuts (3) to 70 ± 5 N·m (52 ± 4 lb ft).

Use the following procedure to tighten the V-band clamp assembly.

  1. Place the bearing housing (10) with the oil supply (6) and the oil drain (9) in the vertical position with respect to the engine. Refer to Figure 2.

  2. Position the threaded rod of the turbine V-band clamp (8) at 45 ± 5 degrees from the horizontal (B). Refer to Figure 3.

  3. Position the compressor V-band clamp (5) so that the threaded rod points downward on the outboard side of the turbocharger. Refer to Figure 2.

  4. Tighten the V-band clamp (8) on the turbine housing (7) enough to prevent the bearing housing from rotating.

  5. Position the air outlet (2) of the compressor at 30 degrees (A) from the vertical (A). Position the air outlet (2) of the compressor on the side that is away from the engine. Refer to Figure 1.

  6. Tighten the compressor V-band clamp (5) enough to prevent the compressor from rotating.

  7. Torque both V-band clamps to 13.5 ± 1.0 N·m (10 ± 0.7 lb ft).

  8. Gently tap both V-band clamps around the circumference of the clamps.

  9. Again tighten both V-band clamps to 13.5 ± 1.0 N·m (10 ± 0.7 lb ft).
