Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Final Drive, Brake and Wheel (Rear)" for the assembly for the rim adapter and refer to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS0872, "Preload Procedure" for bearing preload.
(1) Torque for the nuts ...
(2) Lubricate the seal assembly lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed. Ensure that the seal assembly is snapped into the groove. Keep the brake hub (3) centered on the seal retainer (5) in order to prevent the damage of the seal assembly on holes of the brake hub during assembly.
(4) Lubricate two O-ring seals lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.
(6) Apply 154-9731 Thread Lock Compound to the threads of the bolts.
(7) Apply 4C-5592 Anti-Seize Compound to the serrated length of the shank of the stud before pressing into the wheel (8).
(9) Install the seal retainer so that one of the cast hole in the seal retainer is in line with the tube of spindle oil.
(10) Use the following procedure to tighten the 21 bolts:
- Install one half of the total bolts so that the bolts are equally spaced. Tighten the bolts in the alternate sequence to
450 ± 50 N·m (332 ± 37 lb ft) . - Install the remaining bolts and tighten to
800 ± 100 N·m (590 ± 74 lb ft) . Turn the bolts to an additional angle of 90 ± 10 degrees. - Tighten the bolts that were installed in step 1 to
800 ± 100 N·m (590 ± 74 lb ft) . Turn the bolts to an additional angle of 90 ± 10 degrees.
Note: Do not use the bolts which are removed after the above setting procedure. Discard the bolts and replace the bolts with new bolts.
(11) As required, use the following shim pack in order to fill the gap between the reaction hub and the spindle assembly which allows correct preload on the bearings and a good bolted joint:
- Thickness of the shim pack ...
3.90 mm (0.154 inch)
139-7624 Shim Pack
(12) Torque for the bolts ...
