Grounding Practices
Proper grounding is necessary for optimum performance, reliability, and safety. Improper grounding will result in uncontrolled electrical circuit paths and in unreliable electrical circuit paths.
Uncontrolled electrical circuit paths can cause electrical activity that is unsafe. Uncontrolled electrical circuit paths can also degrade the electronics and communications.
Ensure that all grounds are secure and free of corrosion.
FCC Compliance
This equipment complies with the limits for a "Class A digital device" and is pursuant to Part 15 of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates radio frequency energy. This radio frequency energy can radiate from the unit. If the equipment is not installed or used in accordance with this manual, interference that is harmful to radio communications may occur. Operation of this equipment in a residential area may cause harmful interference. The user will be required to correct the problem if interference occurs.
This equipment complies with Part 68 of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules. The outside surface of this equipment has a label that contains the FCC registration number and the Ringer Equivalency Number (REN). This information must be provided to the telephone company.
An FCC-compliant telephone cord and modular plug is provided with this equipment. This equipment is to be connected to the telephone network or premises wiring. This connection is accomplished by using a compatible modular jack. The modular jack must be compliant with Part 68 of the rules from the FCC.
If this equipment causes harm to the network of telephones, the telephone company may notify you that a temporary discontinuance of service may be required. If advance notice is not practical, the telephone company will notify the customer as soon as possible. Also, you will be advised of your right to file a complaint with the FCC, if necessary.
The telephone company may change facilities, equipment, operations, or procedures that could affect the operation of the equipment. If changes are made, the telephone company will provide an advanced notification so that you can make the necessary modifications in order to maintain uninterrupted service.
If trouble is experienced with the model 3 Com U.S. Robotics Courier V Everything 56K External modem, contact your Cat Dealer. If the equipment is causing harm to the network, the telephone company may request removal of the equipment from the network until the problem is resolved.
Do not make any repairs. Repairs are only by a Caterpillar Dealer. An unauthorized repair will void the warranty.
This equipment cannot be used on public coin service that are provided by the telephone company. A connection to Party Line Service is subject to state tariffs.

Service Center
The 3 Com U.S. Robotics Courier V Everything 56K External modem is not serviceable by the user. Only service personnel that are authorized by Caterpillar may repair the unit. Only service personnel that are authorized by Caterpillar may replace the unit.

The Industry Canada label identifies certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment meets telecommunications network protective, operational, and safety requirements as prescribed in the appropriate Terminal Equipment Technical Requirements documents. The Department does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the users satisfaction. |
Before installing this equipment, users should ensure that it is permissible to be connected to the facilities of the local telecommunications company. The equipment must be installed by using an acceptable method of connection. The customer should be aware that compliance with the above conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some situations.
Repairs to certified equipment should be coordinated by a representative that is designated by the supplier. Alterations and malfunctions to the equipment may initiate a request for disconnecting the equipment by the telecommunication company.
Users should ensure that the electrical ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines, and internal system of metallic water pipes are connected together. This precaution may be important, particularly in rural areas.
Note: Users should not attempt to make such connections. Contact the appropriate electric inspection official or an electrician.

The termination on an interface may consist of any combination of devices subject only to the requirement that the sum of the Ringer Equivalence Numbers of all the devices does not exceed 5. |
